Wildfire preparedness kits given to Pocatello community

Allstate Insurance says about 85 percent of people are not prepared for a disaster. The insurance company is helping the community take charge to be less vulnerable to wildfires.

They are creating emergency kits and evacuation plans for families at the Revive @ 5 event in Pocatello.

The kits include: a dust mask, a water bottle, hand sanitizing wipes, garbage bags, among other items.

The National Interagency Fire Center says 2015 was one of the worst fire seasons in decades. And with over 10 million acres burned countrywide, nearly 740,000 acres were in Idaho alone. Which is why evacuation plans can be so important.

The Pocatello Fire Department and Allstate will be at Revive @ 5 to talk with the public about evacuation plans.

The first 500 families that arrive, can claim their free emergency kits at the Allstate booth.

The event will be held at the Old Town Pavilion on 420 N. Main Street and ends around 7 p.m.
