Cause of Rexburg power outage repaired

UPDATE: 7/29/16 8:30 a.m.

Power has been fully restored to nearly three thousand Rocky Mountain Power customers in Rexburg.

Utility spokesman David Eskelsen said the failure of an underground power line near 1000 South and 1560 West in Rexburg disrupted service to 2,778 customers at 6:03 p.m. Thursday. He said a circuit breaker at a nearby substation detected a problem and opened as a protective measure.

The cause of the outage was isolated and service restored to 1,825 customers by 7:01 p.m.

Another 953 customers were without electric service until repairs to the underground line were completed at around midnight.

UPDATE: Rocky Mountain Power reports the outage may last until 12:30 am, with just under 1,000 customers still without power. Still no word on a cause.

More than 2,700 Rocky Mountain Power customers are without power in Rexburg.

The cause of the outage is under investigation and crews have been dispatched.

Rocky Mountain Power Estimates power will be restored by 9:30 tonight.

This is the second power outage in Rexburg this week.
