2 died in Snake River canyon crash

A 7-year old Virginia boy was one of two people who died after a head-on car crash in western Wyoming Saturday. The other victim was a 27-year old from Afton.

Wyoming Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 7 miles north of Alpine near mile post 125 on US Highway 89 at about 2:20 p.m.

Officers said a Isuzu Rodeo, driven by Elizabeth Gay, 26, of Afton, was travelling north when her SUV started to slide and crossed the southbound lane. Jennifer Eck, 34, of Rustburg, Virginia, was unable to avoid the Isuzu and a “t-bone’ style crash happened, they said. Eck was driving a Pontiac G6.

WHP said the Isuzu passenger Jay Lish died on the scene. He had a skull fracture and other major trauma, according to the Lincoln County Coroner Michael Richins.

WHP said Cole Eck, 7, was flown to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls where he succumbed to his injuries.

His mother, Jennifer Eck and his 12-year-old sister were taken to the hospital in Jackson. Elizabeth Gay was also taken to the hospital in Jackson.

The mother was transferred to a hospital in Salt Lake City. The sister was transferred to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Police said they are still investigating the crash.
