Working to improve civil discourse

Can you agree to disagree? Well, there’s an advocacy group trying to revive civility.

Last week people from all over the state gathered in Boise to participate in the Idaho Civility Summit.

“You learn more about yourself, those that you’re working with,” Bonneville County Prosecutor Danny Clark said. “Maybe some of the concepts we have with some of these other groups, like politicians and press, you know, getting along and that sort of thing.”

Clark said it gives perspective. The whole idea is to get people who may disagree on issues to listen to each other to more effectively come to a solution.

Clark said he sees the need for discussion and discourse improving.

“Perhaps the greatest man-made document that was ever created, the Constitution, was born out of the ideas and discussion, and i think from what i’ve read, even arguments,” he said. “But that collaborative effort brought together or brought up that document… Our country has lived by for 200 years.”

Elected officials, the public and members of the media participated in the Idaho Civility Summit.
