Salvage order issued for Hawkins Reservoir

Steps are being taken to remove illegally introduced Largemouth Bass from Hawkins Reservoir in Bannock County.

The decision will allow licensed fishermen to take fish from the reservoir by almost any means between September 2 through September 16.

Idaho Fish and Game fishery biologists said the illegal introduction is negatively impacting the fishery.

The removal project should be complete by September 27.

All remaining fish in Hawkins Reservoir will die during the treatment.

During the time of the salvage order:

– Fish may be taken by any method except use of firearms, explosives, chemicals, or electric current.
– All bag, possession, size, and number limits are lifted.
– A valid Idaho fishing license is still required in accordance with Idaho Code, Section 36-401.

According to the website, Take Me Fishing dot org, the largemouth bass was originally confined to the eastern United States. It is a member of the sunfish family. Now, it can be found in almost every state in U.S.A.
