“Big Idaho Potato Truck” in town

People in Chubbuck got to see a 12,000 pound potato. The “Big Idaho Potato Truck” made a stop at the Chubbuck McDonald’s on Thursday.

The truck will be making stops around southeastern Idaho in the next few days. People can stop to see it and go up and take pictures with it.

It’s all to celebrate the potato harvest and support local potato growers.

The potato replica is 28 feet long and 11 1/2 feet tall. It would make 1.4 million french fries and take more than 10,000 years to grow.

The truck has been touring all over the U.S. for the last five months. Ellis Nanney, a “spud stud” tour ambassador, said it’s good to be home in Idaho and people in Chubbuck loved the potato.

“The reaction has been really good,” Nanney said. “I have been really surprised though that after five years on the road, there’s still a lot of people around here that don’t even know it exists for just think it’s a commercial. So it’s been a lot of fun getting to interact with them and mess with them a little bit like we do in other parts of the country as well.”

The truck will be at the Idaho Falls McDonald’s on 17th street Friday from noon to 6 p.m. On Saturday, it will be at Spud Days in Shelley and on Sunday, back at the Chubbuck McDonald’s.
