Joshua Holt finally allowed medical treatment; Vice President Biden expected to help case
The family of Joshua Holt received some positive news on Tuesday.
Joshua Holt’s mother Laurie said she received word that Josh was finally taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Josh was arrested by Venezuelan authorities on June 30 on suspicion of being a spy and terrorist. He has been in jail since then, a total of 83 days so far.
Josh has had several medical problems while in jail and his family has been worried that without proper medical care, he wouldn’t make it. The jail had previously refused to take Josh to a hospital.
Laurie Holt also said Vice President Joe Biden is planning to step in and help with Josh’s case. According to Laurie, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch spoke with Biden, who agreed to ask the Venezuelan government for Josh’s release.
According to a spokesman from Hatch’s office, “Biden has committed to petition for Joshua Holt’s release directly to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro when the two meet this week at the United Nations General Assembly.”
Josh was supposed to have a hearing on his charges on Sept. 15 but the judge was a no-show. His new hearing is still scheduled for Oct. 11.
