Suspect in Boise foothills fire pleads not guilty

A man suspected of lighting fireworks that sparked a blaze in the Boise foothills has pleaded not guilty.

The Idaho Statesman reports 19-year-old Taylor Kemp could serve as much as six months in jail on top of a possible $1,000 fine if he is found to have violated the Ada County fireworks ordinance.

He entered a not guilty plea Thursday.

Officials plan to pursue reimbursement for the $400,000 cost of fighting the fire.

The owner of a home destroyed in the blaze seeks is considering an attempt to recover his $200,000 losses or help with cleanup.

The fire spread to roughly 4 square miles.

Kemp has applied for a public defender.

A pretrial hearing is set for Nov. 1.
