St. Anthony veteran recieves new wheelchair

A St. Anthony veteran received a special gift Wednesday night from the local VFW post- a motorized wheelchair. It was all thanks to a new organization in the area called “Heroes on Wheels”.

“I think it’s wonderful what these guys are doing here,” said Boyd Clark, a Vietnam war veteran who received the gift.

For a few years, Clark has been in a manual wheelchair making it difficult to get around everywhere. With the help of the local organization and the VFW, he’ll be able to get around a lot quicker. “I guess I’m a man of few words,” said Clark with teary eyes behind his glasses. The speechless war veteran couldn’t think of much to say his wife Carolyn chalking it up to his overwhelming feeling of gratitude.

“It was really hard to push him around and really I can’t,” said Carolyn. The couple is looking forward to having the wheelchair so they can easily ride around the block together.

The tiny VFW meeting roomed was packed with several people including family members, other veterans, and county commissioners from Fremont and Madison counties.

“Heroes on Wheels” is modeling their program after other organizations in the area including one in Idaho Falls with the Vietnam Veterans Associations. All of these organizations run solely on donations so they can give the veterans a refurbished wheelchair for free.
