Fry sauce on Utah school menu after lobbying from kids

Kids in a Utah elementary school have shown how much they can accomplish if they unite behind a cause. In this case: bringing back fry sauce, a regional delicacy that was missing from their school’s cafeteria.

The combination of mayonnaise and ketchup is beloved in Utah. The Daily Herald called it not just a condiment, but a lifestyle.

Students at Harvest Elementary School in Saratoga Springs began lobbying for the condiment last year. Thanks to their efforts, fry sauce is now available at all schools in the district.

School lunch participation had been dropping, but the trend reversed when the house-made “Harvest Fry Sauce” was added to the menu.

Principal Charles Stewart says the kids “just ate it up. They love it.”
