Construction begins on Pocatello intersection

Construction workers started working on the intersection of Benton Street and Second Avenue Monday — an intersection where many of Pocatello’s accidents happen.

From 2007 to 2011, 35 crashes happened at the intersection, according to the city’s engineering department. Those include three serious injury or fatal crashes.

The project entails installing raised medians on Benton Street so drivers coming from Second Avenue have to turn right at the intersection. All corners of the intersection will also be having new ADA ramps installed and sidewalks replaced.

Construction is set to be done by mid-November. The $313,000 project is being paid mostly through federal sources, according to the city.
