Pocatello man killed in crash near Green River, Wyoming

Wyoming Highway Patrol says a 46-year-old Pocatello man was killed in a crash near Green River, Wyoming early Thursday morning.

According to WHP, Mark Esterholdt of Pocatello was traveling east on I-80 when the Jeep he was driving left the highway and went into the median. Esterholdt overcorrected to the right and exited the interstate to the south sliding into a ditch. After entering the ditch the SUV vaulted a draining ditch and hit a concrete wall.

The accident occurred near milepost 93 at around 4:20 a.m. Thursday morning. Esterholdt was wearing his seat belt, was transported by ground ambulance to Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs, Wyoming where he died from his injuries.

Contributing factors in this crash are still under investigation. This crash marked the 89th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 113 fatalities during this same time period in 2015.
