Heavier semi-trucks closer to driving on U.S. 30

An Idaho Transportation Department subcommittee approved a permit that could let trucks weighing up to 129,000 pounds drive on a nearly three mile stretch of U.S. 30 in Pocatello.

The application was put in by Pacific Recycling and the section goes from their plant to the Simplot plant, which is also close to the U.S. 30/I-86 junction.

If approved, an ITD engineer said it could mean fewer trucks in the area.

The full ITD board will make the final decision on this at a meeting later this month.
