Lane restrictions tonight on Hitt and 17th for powerline work

Traffic in some lanes on Hitt Road and 17th Street will be restricted Thursday night through Friday morning as Rocky Mountain Power works on power lines. The work is being done as part of a project to improve the intersection of the two streets.

Starting at 9 p.m. Thursday evening and lasting until 6 a.m. Friday morning, the east leg of the intersection will be closed. Traffic will be able to travel through the intersection on 25th East and access 17th Street to the west, but traffic will not be able to access 17th Street to the east of the intersection.

Please use caution and extend courtesy to workers and other drivers when traveling through the work zones.

Relocation of the power poles is the first step in a project to improve the intersection, one of the busiest and most dangerous in the area. The $2.6 million project is a collaborative effort between the cities of Idaho Falls and Ammon that calls for widening the roadway to accommodate additional. Construction on the roadway is set to begin in spring 2017 and be completed in late summer.
