Traffic delays expected at 17th Street and Hitt Road

Commuters will see road closures on 25th East Hitt Road and 17th Streetthrough Friday as Rocky Mountain Power relocates three power poles on 25th East Hitt Road at 17th Street.

The city of Idaho Falls and the city of Ammon will share the cost of the project to improve the intersection.

The city planes to widen the intersection and put in additional turn lanes so that the intersection can function more efficiently and safely.

The outside lane on 25th East, as traffic approaches the intersection from the south will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday.

Idaho Falls city engineer Kent Fugal said fall is a good time to get started on the project.

“The fall time has been identified as being a time period when power usage is relatively low, and that work can be accomplished with minimal distribution to the power grid,” Fugal said.

The 17th Street and 25th East intersection improvements are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2017.
