Getting ready for the winter season

Winter is coming, which means it’s the perfect time to check on your snow gear before you head to your favorite ski resort.

“We’re getting all of the skis and snowboards out. A lot of excitement around not only what’s happening here, but what’s happening in the mountains because the snow has already fallen. So it’s full on ready to go,” said Idaho Mountain Trading sales manager Cindy Napier.

Snow is falling and it’s time to book your resort stay.

“That last storm brought in over 27 inches of snow. You know, Mother Nature has always been pretty good to us. And allows us to open with 90 percent natural snow,” said Grand Targhee marketing manager Jennie White.

Also, don’t forget about buying new gear or renting at a store such as Idaho Mountain Trading.

“If you do rent here, you’re able to apply all of your rental dollars toward a purchase. So if you do fall in love with the sport, you can go ahead and have that dollar amount taken off of your purchase,” said Napier.

Grand Targhee Resort is getting ready, and it has a new edition. The resort took out the old double chairlift and put in a new quad lift.

“Maintenance crew is definitely getting all the groomers ready for the coming year. Once we get close to opening day, we’ll actually go out and farm snow. We do see a big surge of people come out for opening day. I think everyone is ready for winter and celebrating snow after summer,” said White.

Holiday weekends book up fast, so reserve those dates now if you can. Don’t forget to check resort websites or call to see what great deals they have for the season.

Here are the opening days of the resorts in our area:

Grand Targhee – Nov. 18 Jackson Hole – Nov. 26 Pebble Creek – Dec. 16 Kelly Canyon – weather permitting
