Police: Suspect injured after officer-involved shooting

FRUITLAND, Idaho (AP) – Police in southwest Idaho say a car chase ended late Monday with at least one officer opening fire and a suspect sustaining injuries.

The Payette County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a black sedan fled after a Payette police officer attempted a traffic stop.

The officer pursued the vehicle south on U.S. Highway 95 into Fruitland where the vehicle ran over spike strips deployed by a Fruitland police officer.

Police say the vehicle then drove eastbound on a westbound off-ramp of Interstate 84.

The vehicle stopped on the off ramp where police say an altercation occurred with at least one officer firing at the suspect.

Police say the suspect sustained injuries and officers gave medical assistance before the suspect was transported to a hospital.

Names haven’t been released.
