Rigby High School student arrested for brandishing gun

The Jefferson County School District says a 17-year-old student has been arrested and is in custody after brandishing a firearm at other students Tuesday.

Sheriff Steve Anderson confirmed the incident happened during a lunch period Tuesday afternoon. No students were harmed.

Anderson said Resource Officers and Detectives investigated the incident and arrested the boy. He was in custody Wednesday.

The sheriff said the boy would be charged with bringing a gun onto school property and that other charges are pending as investigation continues.

In a Facebook posting, the district said that while the incident happened Tuesday, other students came forward to report the incident on Wednesday.
