Shootout in Rigby leaves 1 injured

A home intruder is expected to live after he was shot by the homeowner’s son.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office said the homeowner discovered the intruder, William L. Shinkle of Victor, in his house near 4300 E. 300 N. just before 8:30 a.m.

Shinkle fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the homeowner, Sheriff Steve Anderson said.

The homeowner’s son got a shotgun and shot Shinkle in the lower abdomen, Anderson said.

Shinkle was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Anderson didn’t report on if the homeowner or the son were injured. The sheriff’s office is not releasing the name of the homeowner and the son for privacy sake.

Charges are still pending while they investigate, Anderson said.
