Local dentist’s office buys back Halloween candy

Kids lined up Kidds Dental in Pocatello to get their candy weighed in exchange for dollars in their pocket.

It was part of Kidds Dental eighth annual Cash for Candy Buy Back event, where children get a dollar for every pound of candy brought in. For every dollar given out, Kidds Dental matches it with a donation to the Idaho Food Bank’s Kid’s Backpack Program.

The program, which gives needy kids in southeast Idaho a backpack full of food for the weekend, is something staff at Kidds Dental hold dear.

“It’s a great feeling to help the program,” said Kristi Lunceford, dental assistant. “I know there’s a lot of people in this community that are in need of that, so it makes us feel good to be able to support and help a cause like that.”

Regardless of how many dollars are given out, Kidds Dental will be donating $500 to the food bank.

All the candy bought back is thrown into the trash.
