Utah Trump supporters rally, urge GOP to ‘come home’

Some of Utah’s top Republicans are urging their fellow conservatives to unite around Donald Trump as the billionaire candidate’s lead in the solidly red state has fallen.

U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, Reps. Rob Bishop and Chris Stewart and others spoke at a rally Tuesday afternoon at Utah’s Capitol attended by about 150 Trump supporters.

Stewart, who earlier this year called Trump “our Mussolini” and denounced Trump’s vulgar comments about women, said it’s time for Utah Republicans “to come home” and support the party’s nominee.

Bishop says a vote for a third-party candidate like Evan McMullin, a Mormon and former CIA agent who is surging in Utah polls, is unrealistic and clears the way for Hillary Clinton to win.

Trump has been unpopular with many Utah Republicans and Mormons who’ve been turned off by the billionaire’s demeanor and comments.
