Pocatello teen sentenced for causing motorcyclist’s death

Clayton Scott, 18, was sentenced to two years probation and 80 hours of community service Tuesday for his misdemeanor vehicular-manslaughter charge.

Scott will also have his driver’s license suspended for two years and have to take a driver’s safety course.

Scott was charged in the death of 50-year-old Darrell Garza after police found traffic-surveillance footage showing Scott cut Garza off after failing to yield to oncoming traffic back in June. This caused Garza to lock the brakes on his motorcycle, which eventually caused him to crash.

Garza was thrown from his motorcycle and his head hit the pavement. He wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time.

Garza’s wife and sister made statements in court before the sentence was handed down.
