Local reaction to Bonneville School District’s new high school name

On Thursday, people reacted to the new name and mascot for the new Bonneville School District high school. Wednesday night the district announced “Thunder Ridge” as the new name, and the “Titans” as the mascot. Previously the new high school was called “Black Canyon” and the mascot was the “Phantoms”.

One woman we spoke with is happy — she thought “Phantoms” was too dark.

“The first name – it should just not be suitable for teenagers. The reason why is because we have a generation that is kind of having some troubles. And that to me is giving encouragement to pursue into the wrong direction. So because of that, I feel the new name will be much better,” she said.

There have been very mixed emotions about the new name over social media, but this time, the new high school’s name is here to stay.
