Pocatello still seeking flag designs

After gaining notoriety for displaying the “worst” flag in America, Pocatello will accept ideas for a new design until Friday.

So far, more than 300 entries have been sent to the Flag Design Ad-hoc committee from over a dozen countries.

“It’s amazing to see how far this redesign effort has reached,” said Logan McDougall, Chair of the Flag Design Ad-hoc Committee. “We’ve received entries from Ukraine, Canada, Chile, and Australia to name a few. Around the globe, people are talking about our community and learning about the area we call home.”

The final entries will go to a panel that will bring the best of them back to the public for their input.

A decision-making panel hasn’t been finalized, but McDougall says it’ll be comprised of experts in art, design, advertising, history and vexillology…the scientific study of the symbolism and usage of flags.

Pocatello was highlighted in a TED Talk by journalist Roman Mars in 2015 for having “the worst flag in North America” as chosen by the members of the North American Vexillological Association.
