Update 1/6/17 10:19 am: The Department of Environmental Quality has extended its air quality advisory for Salmon and the surrounding area until Monday January 9. Air conditions will be reevaluated at that time.
Until then outdoor fuel burning is prohibited and sensitive groups are encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible.
Update 1/5/17 11:25 am: The Department of Environmental Quality has continued its air quality advisory for Salmon and the surrounding area. The advisory will be reevaluated on Friday, January 6.
Original Story: A new winter storm moving across the region has prompted a new air quality advisory for Salmon and the surrounding area.
Air conditions in the area have deteriorated to a state considered unhealthy to sensitive groups. While the advisory is active all burning in the area has been banned, with the exception of wood burning stoves for heating homes.
When air quality is unhealthy, everyone may begin to experience health effects. Members of sensitive groups (those with heart and lung diseases, elderly, and children) may experience more serious effects & should avoid prolonged/heavy exertion & stay indoors. Everyone else should limit prolonged/heavy exertion & limit time outdoors.
Conditions in the area will be reevaluated Thursday, January 5.
