New Madison County sheriff takes office

Madison County Sheriff Rick Henry was sworn in Monday, along with the county prosecutor and two commissioners.

He was sworn in by Judge Greg Moeller. County prosecutor Side Brown was sworn in along with Jon O. Weber and Todd Smith as county commissioners. Weber has served as commissioner for eight year prior and re-elected for a four year term.

Former Sheriff Roy Klingler announced last year that he would be retiring. Klingler was elected in 2001 after serving as an officer in the Rexburg Police Department.

Henry ran against Capt. Cameron Standford, whom Klingler endorsed last year.

“I believe people are ready for something new. I’ve built lasting relationships with people in the community, along with agencies such as the city of Rexburg and Idaho State Police,” Henry said.

The next step for Henry is getting to know his co-workers.”It’s day one so we will take things slow. Getting to know who the employees are, know about their families and build a team,” Henry said.

Henry said he isn’t looking to make any quick changes, but he said he has some ideas once he gets settled in his new position.
