Two men arrested on robbery

Update 01/08/17: Idaho Falls Police arrested 31‐year‐old Alberto L. Nunez and 23‐year‐old Alejandro Loya on Saturday in connection to the Video Mexico robbery. Nunez was booked into the Bonneville County Jail for two counts of robbery.

Loya was booked into the Bonneville County Jail for accessory to robbery. According to reports, Nunez entered Video Mexico, 1338 Lincoln Road, and threatened an employee and a customer with a gun on Friday. Nunez took money and jewelry from the store. He also stole cash from the customer. Nunez left the store on foot before being picked up by Loya, driving a 2004 white Duramax truck, in the 1000 block of East Lincoln Road.

On Saturday, detectives received information that the white truck located at Loya’s residence in Blackfoot. Idaho Falls Police and Blackfoot Police contacted Loya with a search warrant for the residence and the truck.

Loya was taken into custody following a stand‐off. As their investigation continued, Detectives identified Nunez as the suspect in the robbery. He was contacted at his Idaho Falls residence and arrested.

Original story 01/07/17: There was police activity at a home on Peach Street, near Sparling Street, Blackfoot Saturday.

Blackfoot Police Chief Asmus said the standoff happened so that they could get a search warrant before entering the home.

Neighbors said officials were there since 5:45 with a S.W.A.T. team and Blackfoot Police.

Bill Penoyer is a resident in the area and said it was a sight to see.

“The cops came in like they were magnets over there. They started calling out the guy’s name. We didn’t know what as all going on and they started yelling his name again. Then they got tired of waiting, I guess, so they went through and opened the front door, went through the house, told everybody to stay back, told us to get in the house.” Penoyer said.

Neighbors said they saw two people get arrested and believe one of them were involved in an armed robbery that happened Friday.

Police tell us they will have more information later.
