Fire destroys garage on Satterfield Drive

A garage is a total loss after a fire destroyed it Wednesday afternoon.

The fire occurred at a home on Satterfield Drive in Pocatello. The acting battalion chief for the Pocatello Fire Department, Jeremy Pincock, said dispatch received the call around 12:15 p.m. There was a report of an explosion when it was called in.

Pincock said when crews arrived on scene, the garage was in flames. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in about 20 minutes.

Pincock said the cause is still undetermined at this time but it did start in the garage. He said investigators were still on scene trying to find the cause.

The garage is a total loss, but the rest of the house received only some slight smoke damage.

Pincock said the homeowners were not home at the time, but there were some “squatters” there. No one was injured.

There are no official estimates yet on the amount of damage, but Pincock said he’d estimate at least $80,000-90,000 in damage to the garage.
