Bingham County murder victim’s name released, suspect arraigned

Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland says David Lee Davis, 30, of Pocatello was shot and killed at a house at 631 South 1600 West in Bingham County Saturday night.

The sheriff’s office said it is protecting the crime scene. The State crime laboratory was on the scene today to assist the sheriff’s deputies in collecting evidence.

Melonie Smith was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. During arraignment Monday afternoon the State requested $1 million bond, which was granted. A preliminary hearing for the case was set for February 23rd at 8:30 a.m. The court ordered the case file sealed for the time being but that could change as the case progresses.
Another elderly female was also found at the residence. The sheriff’s office said that woman was not arrested but was transported to the Idaho Falls Crisis Center for observation.
