Woman booked into Bingham County Jail for murder

Update 1:02 a.m.: The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office says deputies will be at the Pingree home of Melonie Dawn Smith through Monday morning.

Neighbors tell KIFI/KIDK that deputies have been at the home on 1600 South since midnight Saturday. The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office would not provide KIFI/KIDK with details of the arrest or murder, despite repeated attempts to get information.

The Bingham County Prosecutor says more information will be released Monday morning.

ORIGINAL STORY: Bingham County Sheriff’s Office tells us Melonie Dawn Smith has been charged with first-degree murder.

Smith was booked into the Bingham County Jail at 2:49 a.m., Sunday morning.

The crime scene is still active, Sheriff Craig Rowland said.

The sheriff’s office is not releasing the location of the crime scene at this time.
