Fire damages potato processing plant

Fire caused an estimated $75,000 to $100,000 damage at Basic American Foods at 40 East 7th North in Rexburg Monday. Madison Fire Chief Corey Child said a potato dryer caught fire at around 5:39 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the fire had broken through a flu and spread into the roof. The fire was contained to the furnace of the dryer in a production area of the plant. No one was injured. Firefighters had the fire under control within an hour.
