Rexburg police honored for their hard work, dedication

The Rexburg men and woman in blue were honored Friday for their dedication and hard work in the community.

The Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce put together 140 bags filled with gifts and gift certificates from local businesses as a thank you. They will go to every police and sheriff’s officer, as well as the office staff.

School Resource Officer for the Rexburg Police Department Shawn Scott said he was grateful to the community for his gift bag.

“We knew we were going to be presented with a gift, but we just weren’t sure what it was. Every time we hear from the community and praised it just feels good,” Scott said.

Scott also said when he’s out and about in his patrol car he’s constantly stopped by people in the community and often thanked.

“I think everybody who becomes a police officer gets into this job to make a difference in the community and help other people,” Scott said.

CEO and president of the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce Christopher Mann said it was amazing how many local businesses donated to the cause and the amount of generosity.

“It was wonderful to have a ceremony to thank local police and present them with the gift bag,” Mann said.

Mann said they would also be delivering gift bags to the Madison Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Services.

“We appreciate them and this idea came from our brand new chairman of the board, Jason Evens. He said,
“Lets do something special for them,” Mann said.”This is a community that supports it’s police.”
