Vet clinic talks pet crematory safety
It can be a sensitive topic, but something pet owners have to face when their pet passes away. Do they want to have them buried or have their pet cremated? For some, cremation allows owners to spread their pets ashes in a special place.
The Community Animal Hospital is the only vet clinic in Pocatello to offer pet crematory services. The next nearest clinic is in Idaho Falls.
With cremation equipment that can get up to 18,000 degrees, the clinic has special fire safety rules in place. Thanks to those safety rules, when a small fire started on Wednesday night, they were able to quickly contain it.
“We have strong safety rules in place. One of which is not performing a burn without someone at the office, which is an absolute set in stone rule for us. We also do training on our fire equipment,” said Dr. Julia Alpert, the owner of the Community Animal Hospital.
Dr. Alpert emphasized they will never put pet ashes in the trash. If a pet owner wants to cremate a pet, but does not want the ashes, the clinic will spread the ashes in a special flower garden. That way, the animals ashes can be back outside, close to nature.
