Rocky Mountain Power explains cause of substation fire

The cause of a substation fire that happened in Idaho Falls and left thousands without power.

Rocky Mountain Power said pieces of equipment had caught fire.

A spokesperson with Rocky Mountain Power said sometimes equipment just wears out.

“This equipment, when it does catch fire, it sounds like a shot gun going off and so a lot of people will report it sounding like an explosion,” Paul Murphy said.

Murphy said all power was restored by 5:10 p.m. Saturday.
