Fort Hall woman to compete for Miss Indian World title

Taylor Haskett of Fort Hall will compete in the Miss Indian World Pageant in Albuquerque, New Mexico April 27-29. The pageant is part of the 34th Annual Gathering of Nations, the most prominent Native American powwow. Haskett is among 28 Native American women representing different tribes and traditions. She is a member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe. The women will compete for the title in the areas of cultural tribal knowledge, dancing ability, public speaking, and personality assessment. Organizer Melonie Mathews said the title of Miss Indian World is one of the most prestigious honors a young Native American woman can achieve. “Equivalent to the Miss America title, the winner will represent all native and indigenous people throughout North America and will serve as a cultural goodwill ambassador throughout the world,” said Mathews.
