Madison County cities prepare for eclipse tourists
The cities of Rexburg and Sugar City have taken action to help accommodate some of the half-million visitors expected to view the total solar eclipse in eastern Idaho this summer. The cities have approved new designated camping areas on city properties. In Rexburg, Eagle Park and a portion of Riverside Park will be opened for tent camping. The city said there are over 220 camping areas available. Rates will start at $55 per night. The Sugar City Business Park and a lot south of the city have been designated for RV camping, starting at $100 per night. Rexburg Mayor Jerry Merrill said the camping areas will allow visitors to stay in town with easy access to local businesses. “We hope that visitors to our cities find our communities welcoming,” said Merrill. “We have a variety of local business(es) that can cater to these tourists.” The Madison County cities have established a website to help people looking for tent camping or RV spots.
