Class of ’71 donates granite bench to Pocatello

Pocatello and Highland High School alumni will present a granite bench to the city during Old Town’s “First Friday Art Walk” this Friday. The bench was purchased by the two schools’ classes of 1971. The idea began during the combined 45th class reunion of the two schools. The design, engraving, and installation of the bench were donated by the classes by Thomas Marble and Granite. The group decided to put the bench on North Main Street, near where the Chief Theatre sign now stands. “Many of us spent a lot of time in Old Town, specifically at the Chief Theatre, during our formative years,” said Councilman and Highland High School Class of 1971 graduate Michael Orr. “It’s fitting that the bench will sit where the Chief once stood, as it’s the site of so many great memories.” A formal presentation is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
