Fugitive arrested at Idaho Falls hotel after weeks on the run

UPDATE: 3:25 p.m.: The U.S. Marshals Service confirms to KIFI/KIDK that after a several hours standoff, fugitive Nick Olsen was arrested at the Fairbridge Inn & Suites. The agency also confirmed Olsen’s girlfriend, Chanel Bistodeau, 32, was arrested.

Olsen of Ammon was arrested on a U.S. Marshals Warrant, a Bingham County Warrant, felony possession of a controlled substance and resisting and obstructing law enforcement. Bistodeau of Blackfoot was arrested for a Bingham County Warrant, felony possession of a controlled substance and resisting and obstructing law enforcement.

The agency would not comment on how Olsen and his girlfriend were caught but wanted to thank the public for its help in locating the individual.

Officers did find methamphetamine and heroin in the hotel room.

No one was hurt during the incident.

ORIGINAL STORY: Two people are in custody after an Idaho Falls hotel was evacuated Saturday morning while the U.S. Marshals Service searched for a fugitive.

Employees of the Fairbridge Inn & Suites on Lindsay Boulevard said law enforcement officers began arriving at the hotel around 11 a.m. Employees say all employees and guests of the hotel were evacuated.

Idaho State Police confirmed they were searching for a wanted fugitive who is considered armed and dangerous. They have not released the name of the suspect.

Earlier this week, U.S. marshals said they were searching for Nick Olsen, aka Nick Ricks and Nightmare Nick. Marshals said he had been on the run from law enforcement for over a month now. The U.S. marshals believed Olsen was armed and dangerous.

Idaho State Police, along with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Falls Police assisted the U.S. marshals. Members of the Idaho Falls SWAT team were also at the hotel to assist.
