Special group performs at Idaho Falls Earth Day celebration, drawing hundreds

A special group of entertainers performed for the hundreds at Idaho Falls’ Earth Day celebration Saturday.

Members of Eagle Rock Taiko have spent months practice for their show at the celebration. Young and old gathered to watch them. The musicians play ancient drums to provide listeners a good time. The master of the group says Earth Day was the perfect chance to share their talents.

“Taiko is actually about focus and spirit,” master Janet Youngblood said. “You have to memorize songs so we practice these songs in the workshops and we don’t perform until we are comfortable with our focus so that nothing will throw you off. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done and I have a doctorate and I have all the academic degrees.”

Several vendors were also on hand at the celebration.

Taiko practices through the city of Idaho Falls Parks & Recs Department and resumes again in August.
