Prescription pile burning planned along highway 26

Travelers may see burning and smoke along US Highway 26 in the Palisades area over the next several days. The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said private property owners, the Idaho Department of Lands, and the U.S. Forest Service have cleared wood fuels and other materials near Indian Creek and along the highway near Palisades Reservoir. Now, they plan to burn the debris in a series of prescription, controlled burns. Depending on weather conditions, there may be brief periods of low visibility over the roadway. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and use appropriate caution. Pile burning is typically conducted during spring green-up or after moisture to provide greater security from fire. Bonneville County’s wildfire protection plan is available here.
