Police say mother identified her daughter as one of the cemetery vandals
Update 3:22 pm: Idaho Falls Police say that all three juveniles they interviewed Wednesday have admitted to the vandalism at the Rose Hill Cemetery. The detective’s reports are being collected and formal charges will be filed against the juveniles in the next few days.
The man who submitted the photo to Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News 3 asked not to be identified but did have this to say about today’s events.
“I am glad it worked and it got them kids caught. I have trouble believing that three girls did it alone. It was a lot of work for three little girls to do.”
Idaho Falls Monument is working with the cemetery to clean up and provide damage assessments. They say the total cost of the damage could be as much as $150,000.
Original Story: Idaho Falls Police say the vandals that damaged headstones at the Rose Hill Cemetery were identified after one mother recognized her daughter in the photo released Tuesday night.
The mother took her daughter to police where she admitted to the crime and told officers the names of the other two people pictured. Idaho Falls Police are still interviewing the three juveniles and charges against them are forthcoming. The names of the teens are not being released because they are juveniles.
Sgt. Scott Killian with the Idaho Falls Police thanked KIFI Local News 8 and KIDK 3 Eyewitness News for providing the Idaho Falls Police with the picture of the juveniles. Our station received the picture from a viewer who said they had seen the juveniles acting suspiciously at the cemetery.
Police are still evaluating the total damage done to the headstones. Families who had headstones at the cemetery damaged will be notified by police.
