Shinkle pleads guilty in home invasion case

William L. Shinkle pleaded guilty Monday to four felony counts in 7th District Court in Rigby. Shinkle was charged in connection with a home-invasion shooting at a Jefferson County home October 27, 2016. Shinkle was shot by the homeowner and was hospitalized. He was arrested on his release from the hospital. Jefferson County Prosecutor Paul Butikofer said Shinkle pleaded guilty to two felony counts of aggravated assault, one count of burglary, and one felony count of possession of methamphetamine. Two misdemeanor counts, including a weapons enhancement charge, were dismissed. Judge Alan C. Stephens ordered a presentence investigation and set sentencing for July 17. Butikofer said Shinkle’s maximum sentence could be up to ten years in prison. Two other persons are suspects in the home invasion. Hillary Porter faces felony charges of burglary and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. She has appeared for a preliminary hearing and was bound to district court. She is awaiting arraignment there. The third suspect, Stoney Lee Fisher, is still at large. He is wanted on a warrant for aiding and abetting.
