Update: Police release name of man killed in accident at Yellowstone and 17th

Update 5/16/17 11:57 am: Idaho Falls Police have released the name of the man who was killed in an accident at Yellowstone and 17th Street.

87-year-old Richard Lee Starnes died Monday from injuries sustained during the crash. His wife was also in the truck with him at the time of the crash and was admitted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Starnes was driving a Toyota Truck on Yellowstone when he went through a red light and collided with a white GMC truck that was traveling westbound on 17th Street. The driver of the GMC truck had no injuries and was released at the scene.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Richard Starnes had a medical episode, as witnesses reported that he appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel prior to entering the intersection.

UPDATE: 2:15 p.m.

Idaho Falls Police say an 89-year-old man and an elderly female were hurt in a crash at the intersection of Yellowstone and 17th Street .

According to police, the man was traveling northbound on Yellowstone Avenue and did not see a red light.

The vehicle collided with a westbound pickup.

Those involved have not yet been identified.

ORIGINAL NOTIFICATION:

A serious accident is blocking traffic at the intersection of Yellowstone and 17th Street/Pancheri in Idaho Falls.

Police said the intersection could be blocked for 2 to 3 hours.
