Fallen Soldier Memorial to be dedicated Friday
The 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team will dedicate a Fallen Soldier Memorial at Gowen Field Memorial Park in Boise Friday. The soldier’s battlefield cross will honor unit soldiers who died in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III and Operation New Dawn. The conflicts were two of the largest deployments in Idaho history. Brigadier General Alan C. Gayhart will be keynote speaker at the ceremony. Gayhart served as the unit’s commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom III and was previous commander of the Idaho Army National Guard. The unveiling is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the unit’s headquarters building. Former 116th CBCT leaders and family members of the fallen were invited.
