Six people injured in crash near Tetonia

UPDATE: 2:30 p.m. 5-18-17 Patsy Wightman’s condition was improved to “fair” Thursday afternoon.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Six people were sent to hospitals around the area after a crash near Tetonia Wednesday night.

According to Idaho State Police, it happened at the intersection of State Highway 33 and State Highway 32 in Tetonia.

Fumig Cai, from China drove south on Highway 32 in a 2017 Toyota Sequoia, Cai did not yield and crashed into Philip Wightman’s 1999 Dodge Pickup, who was traveling west on State Highway 33. Wightman is from Rexburg.

Cai had four passengers in the Sequoia and all of them were taken to Teton Valley Hospital in Driggs. Cai and one of his passengers were wearing seatbelts, the others in the car were not.

Philip Wightman was taken to Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, his passenger Patsy Wightman was taken by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, her condition is listed as serious. Neither of them was wearing seatbelts.

The road was blocked for approximately three hours while crews investigated.
