High winds rock eastern Idaho

Winds gusting to over 50 miles per hour were recorded in parts of Southern and Eastern Idaho Blaine County Wednesday.

Interstate 15 was closed Wednesday afternoon from Idaho Falls to Roberts, due to blowing dust.

In the I-15 corridor, gusts were ranging from 50 to 60 miles per hour. Gusts of 66 miles per hour were posted on the INL site.

Meteorologist Chris Bruin said hurricane force is 74 miles per hour. At those speeds, wind damage and power outages are possible.

Reporter Chris Oswalt found a trailer overturned by winds on US 26 at milepost 363 east of Idaho Falls.

High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service
