Man charged with aggravated assault after gun threat

A Rexburg man was arrested Tuesday after pulling out a gun during a fight with a tow-truck operator. Rexburg Police said Dell “D.J.” Barney, 46, got into an argument with a truck driver for Guardian Towing at around 8:25 a.m. Tuesday. Barney had paid to remove boots from two vehicles at Parkside Apartments but got into a dispute with the driver over a receipt on one of them. According to reports, Barney pulled a gun out of one of the cars and asked the truck driver, “Is this worth your life?” Police said Barney never directly pointed the gun at the driver. Police found Barney and placed him under arrest for aggravated assault. Barney was being held in the Madison County Jail. Barney is the former owner of a Rexburg towing company.
