Deputies step up patrols near “Haunted Swing”

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up patrols around a section of property that has drawn some widespread interest from the curious. It’s located on Walker Road near the intersection of 750 South 2nd East on the Rexburg Bench. Known variously as “The Haunted Swing” or “The Webster Swing”, Madison County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Courtney said the property is listed on a number of internet sites as a place to visit and hang out around Rexburg.
The property hosts a swing and a small grain silo that has been converted into a playhouse. By legend, the swing is thought to be somehow haunted. The land is also posted with a number of highly visible “No Trespassing” signs.
Sometime during the night of Wednesday, May 24 into the morning of Thursday, May 25, the silo had a lock broken off. Items were removed from inside and windows were broken out. Courtney does not know any credible story to explain why the swing is thought to be haunted, but what he does know is that the private property is clearly posted. The property is also surrounded by other old homesteads and cultivated fields that are also protected by trespassing laws. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to call 208-356-5426.
