Days for Girls, local efforts in helping girls all over the world

There are girls all over the world who miss school because of their periods. Local groups are helping this issue by giving girls from different countries the sanitation supplies they need.

Days for Girls is the international organization that several east Idaho-made teams are helping. They gather and create supplies to help the girls manage their periods so they don’t have to miss school. Volunteers sew together sustainable hygiene kits to make these girls’ lives a little easier.

“We’re giving back the days. Which in a 3-year-period can equal about 180 days of school,” said Idaho Falls Days for Girls team leader Brenda Merchant.

“As many people as we can get can help out to make these kits because girls all over the world are in need,” said co-leader Penny Brizzee.

Here is what you can donate:

There are multiple teams in our area in different east Idaho cities. You can contact Merchant at and visit to find out more about how to get involved.

Girls for Days is an international agency with more than 900 teams in the U.S. Cash donations can be given to the website and list which team you would like the money to go to.

The Idaho state competition of Distinguished Young Women has chosen Girls for Days as its service project for the year.
