UPDATE: Missing boy found safe near Hawthorne Elementary School

UPDATE 10:47 am: Idaho Falls Police say Tucker Mertz has been found safe. He was found near Hawthorne Elementary School. Police think that Tucker thought he was supposed to be in school today and walked there on his own.

The Idaho Falls Police thank everyone for their help. We are still following the story and will provide additional updates as they become available.

Original Story: Idaho Falls Police are asking for the communities help to find a missing 5-year-old boy. Tucker Mertz was reported missing Tuesday morning in the area of 10th Street and Bonneville Drive.

Tucker Mertz is roughly 80 pounds and about 4 feet tall. He has brown eyes and brown hair that covers his ears. It is unknown what he may have been wearing when he went missing. Tucker has a speech impediment and may have difficulty communicating. If you see or know anything about his location call Idaho Falls Police at 529-1200.

Tucker was reported missing just before 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

It was announced that Mertz was missing through an emergency notification phone call from the Idaho Falls Police.

We have a reporter on the way to the area to get additional details and to obtain a picture of the boy.
